Too Friday for a Thursday
Would you look at how incredible this shirt is? It has orange juice and a dude playing the saxophone, spots, stripes, hot cars and all round raddery. It was part of what I am calling The Greatest Thrifting Experience of my Life. Remind me to tell you about it sometime. Apparently the suspenders and Converse made the whole thing a little ‘too Friday’ for the Thursday I wore it at work, according to one guy. But then I figured, it this weren’t a leap year, it would be Friday. The
To Market
The most wonderful thing has happened, friends. I’ve somehow started a gorgeous collection of vintage dresses. I say somehow; I mean, I know how. By purchasing them from op-shops. It wasn’t intentional, is what I meant. But it sure is wonderful! This is Jennifer (you’ve met Sigourney). I wore her on the weekend to see an incredible pair of writers speak as part of the Queensland Poetry Festival. It was a sunny Saturday morning and paired with my Converse and handmade, bold print
Redemption
When I was 16 or 17, like most teenage girls, I did a modelling course. I remember staring soulfully into the camera, my gel-wet, tousled hair hanging long over my shoulders for my head shot; learning to walk as though on two train tracks down the runway, instead of tightrope like — one foot in front of the other — as I imagined. And then appearing in a Melbourne Cup fashion parade. It was for Cue and I’ll never forget the orange go-go style dress with a giant
Euphoric
This here was the first sweater of the season. To be fair, it was probably a touch too early. But I was just so dang excited. A sweater! After the actual hottest summer in Brisbane’s history. What a novelty! My hopes for the coldest winter to compensate for all that summer haven’t exactly been realised as yet. But I guess it’s technically still only Autumn. Even if my lack of layers would have you believe otherwise. I tell you what though, if I don’t get
Spin spin sugar
Ladies and gentlemen, meet Sigourney. Isn’t she just glorious? I found her at my favourite op shop a little while back. She needed some work. Her hem had never been finished and she needed a snap added so she wouldn’t gape at the middle but I just knew I had to have her. And I knew I had to immortalise her on the internet too. So here we are, enjoying a little culture at GOMA during their recent Sugar
The hot hot heat
It’s finally, finally starting to feel like autumn. The weather turned cool at the beginning of the week, only, what, a month into the season? But when these snaps were shot last month, it was straight up hotter than hot. Note the crackly, dry grass. The fine, dusty dirt. The slick marriage of sweat and sunscreen on the skin. On a bright, stifling Saturday morning, The Man and I ventured out to Eatons Hill to watch the Dogs v Lions in the brand
Casual Carmen Miranda
This is one of my all-time favourite T-shirts. Ever. Though I guess I didn’t really need to say ever because ‘all-time’ probably encompasses that. But whatever. It’s great. And I’m — well I wanted to say I was surprised it hasn’t already featured on here because I got it, what, three years ago now? But then I remembered I don’t post here every day any more so, you know, I guess it’s not that shocking. You probably don’t need to stop the presses or anything.
Great Southern Land
There’s a colour I’m really into right now. A shade. A hue. It’s ochre. Rust. Red dirt. I noticed it creep into my wardrobe as I hung singlet, shirt, high-neck zip up on the clothes line. And it’s little wonder I’m inspired by it. It’s all around me in this, my country. It’s the sand, the late afternoon sky, the trunk of the scrappy, scrubby gums sketched against the wide open horizon. Top: Myer Belt: Myer Skirt: Sportsgirl (home dye job
No square
Before we kick this off, someone needs to tell Drew Barrymore there’s a heart-shaped patch on the ground in these pictures. She put out a book about seeing hearts everywhere, right? I just thought she’d probably like to know. Anyway, now we’ve got that sorted, I’m pretty in love with this outfit. There’s a special level of satisfaction when something just comes together better than you’d hoped. You know? Ugh, the tiny details might be what make me all heart-eyes emoji the most.
Your luck, my pants
I’m really feeling the patterned pants vibe lately. Have I talked about that on here? Probably not. I haven’t talked about anything on here in a while. These particular pants are from what I call the ‘old lady section’ in David Jones. It’s not really old lady. But it’s definitely not the hip young juniors section either. Patterned pants and terrible/excellent sweaters. You want that stuff, you hit the old lady section. I want that stuff. Which is why I bought another pair of
