Towards the tail end of blogging, before I took an extended, unexpected break, I was lamenting (often) about not having occasion to put together “blog worthy” outfits. I worked from home. I pretty much saw no one. What was the point in wearing anything other than a singlet and shorts (hello, Queensland)? I even got all existential and asked if personal style even exists if there’s no one there to see it.
That was a couple of years ago and I have to admit, it’s only been in the last month that something twigged and I realised I’d been drinking my own Kool-Aid.
Yeah, I’m not getting dressed and going into work every day (just to be clear, I am still getting dressed) and yeah, I’m probably going to wear pretty simple stuff when I’m sitting at my desk. But when I do go out. When I catch up with friends or go out with The Man or visit family or spend the day wandering around the city or whatever — that’s an occasion to pull something together. I’d been throwing on jeans and a T shirt or something equally simple because I kept telling myself my era of “blog worthy” outfits was over. Pffft!
I don’t think it’s any coincidence I’ve had this revelation now the weather’s turned cold. I’m not even going to think about summer when I can wear a maximum of two pieces of clothing without dissolving into a crying, sweating (which is which?) mess.
For now I’m in a bit of a groove and I’m digging it.
