My Life In This Coat

May 25th, 2012 by Selise

Guys? I want this coat. No, no, I need this coat. Actually, to be honest, I want to need this coat.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess every, oh I dunno, 10 or 11 days I ask The Man why we don’t live in Seattle. Or Tasmania. Or at least Melbourne. Somewhere cold. Because Queensland? Not cold. Hot? Sure. We’ve got that in spades. But being one who prefers to shiver rather than sweat, this is not exactly a positive.

If we lived somewhere cold? I’d get to wear coats. Regularly. Instead of, you know, when we fly down and spend the weekend in Melbourne. Or really save our smackers and head overseas. But that only happens a few times a year, so (and all you cold-land dwellers are going to gasp at this) I only have one coat.

I know, I know. Woe is me. Poor Selise and her relatively coat-less existence. However does she endure it?

By losing hours imagining my life in other coats. Like this one.

In this coat I live on an apple farm.

In the early hours of a Saturday morning The Man and I gather up the barrels of our delicious apples, stack them in the back of our old jalopy and trundle down the dirt road toward the markets. Our cheeks are rosy and we can see our breath. I’ve got a thermos of tea between my knees and I’m warming my gloved hands on it.

When we jump out to unload the apples, I smooth my jacket and the corduroy pinafore that’s poking out underneath. Straighten my woollen tights, fold the tops of my knee-high socks over and stamp my feet up and down, feeling the rubber soles of my gumboots on the uneven pavers…

SEE? See why it’s cruel to deprive me of a multi-coat existence?

What about you guys? What life would you live in this coat?

Note: ASOS asked me to write a little something about one of their coats. Which I did here, happily. I adore ASOS.
If you’ve got something you’d like me to write about, drop me a line at contact (at) loverssaintsandsailors (dot) com. I’d love to hear from you!

I would not have a job and appear not to care about it.

So after flying into Melbourne from Heathrow, we made our connection and touched down in Hobart and while I’m waiting for my luggage I thought I’d post a quick comment to your blog. You and the man might be a little whiles finding a park in your old Jalopy 😉 So yeh, my coat not only survived the whole flight in spectacular style but I had 7 people comment on it and 3 staff ask where they can get their hands on one. You were right, it was a stand out throughout my entire book tour of Europe and the US. I love wearing clothes that go with my life! Ooh I hear a beeping out front and can detect the distinct smell of Apples.. Yay, you’re here! You’re here! xxxx 🙂 🙂

This coat is very beautiful and I do live where a coat is needed!

I love that coat, but I would not gather apples in it. Wouldn’t want to get that pretty thing dirty 🙂

  5. First of all, the coat is gorgeous! I can totally see you in it. 🙂 Second of all, your coat-clad, rosy-cheeked fantasy sounds amazing.

But … I think I would probably sell my coats for a ticket to somewhere warm. 😉
