Orange Airplane

August 9th, 2010 by Selise

This dress is a good example of what I feel I’ve learned to avoid following my shopping ban. I bought it back in March and I’ve only worn it once before. It is 2-3 sizes too big for me, is conspicuous (not that that is always bad) and has ruffles. But it was $7 on the sale rack.

I’ve racked my brain trying to think of other ways to style it and this was all I could come up with. It’s not bad but it’s not a favourite. I definitely don’t get excited to see it in my wardrobe and I think that might be the clincher. Every time I look at it hanging there I think, “There’s that dress that I bought because it was on sale even though it’s way too big and I never wear it”. And I feel a little silly. And almost a little guilty.

So I’m giving it to Goodwill. You can tell that Spring is around the corner because I am itching to clear things out. Clear and clean and start a fresh.

I just tossed out around a third of my closet… super necessary since I only can stuff so much into my tiny (well not tiny but not huge either) closet.

I tend to purchase stuff just because they're on the sale rack too! ugh so bad…

cut it short and cut of the sleeves and maybe u can wear it as a summer dress with some big jewelry

I'm proud of you. I used to have a bunch of sale items like that, but I got rid of them last spring. I can't wait to spring clean. I think I need it to be spring to do it. So unmotivated. I like your necklace! Very you! Everytime I see a pirate symbol now I think of you Selise 🙂 It's nice.

You look so pretty. I love red and black outfits. Best colour combination ever!

Oh, I know exactly how you feel about the "little bit guilty"! I am so the exact same way! But it IS a good colour on you. As for giving it to the goodwill, don't you have any friends who would like it? I always like it when my friends give me clothes they don't want (not that I am suggesting you ship it here, don't think it would fit me either). Just it's good karma to giveaway clothes to people who may give them back to you.

unless of course you are trying to bribe the thrift gods. then carry on.

I hate purchases like that! I've gotten so much better over time. Now, I almost err on the side of too conservative with my spending. Oh well, space in my closet is at a premium these days!
